Installation Notes

All FleetVIP files should be installed in the same folder using the installation package downloaded from https://alembx.com.

If you simply copy files from one location to another folder, FleetVIP may not be configured properly and may produce errors.  In that case, run the installer program again.

Installation must be performed using an account with full administrator rights.  If the installation process is performed without full administrator rights, then you may have problems later using FleetVIP or you could encounter an error when trying to run the Activation Wizard.

It is not uncommon if installing to a shared network drive that your access rights may have been restricted even though you believe you have full administrator rights.  This scenario often interferes with a successful network installation and must be resolved by your network administrator.

File server or multi-user installations:

FleetVIP is quite easy to setup in a network environment.

However, we recommend that file server and all multi-user installations be performed with the assistance of an on site network support professional who is familiar with your particular network environment and with any standard operating procedures that may be required in your organization.

In a file server environment where FleetVIP is installed to a common shared folder, it is recommended to select just one machine to run the installation package on and during installation and select the intended shared folder on your file server as the installation destination.

For any additional machines, simply add a shortcut that launches autovip.exe in the shared folder.

For convenience when installing launch shortcuts on workstations, you can run the AddShortcuts.exe program in the installation directory from any workstation to install a shortcut and menu option on that workstation.  You can use a drive letter mapping or a file URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) for the shortcut.

For a file server or multiple-user installation, all users should have read/write access to the VIP.TPS file.

Only the system administrator should be granted authority to execute the uninstall program named "uninst_autovip.exe".  Only execute this program if you are uninstalling the application.

File caching is NOT recommended for any multi-user installation prior to Windows 8.

Opportunistic locking is a form of file caching and should be disabled for Windows versions prior to Windows 8 as per Microsoft KB article 296264 at:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/296264.

Since versions of Windows prior to Windows 7 are no longer supported by Microsoft, the best strategy is to upgrade any of those outdated machines to a supported version of Windows such as Windows 10.

(Windows 7 will no longer be supported by Microsoft after January 14, 2020.)

Running a mixed base of older and newer Windows computers may increase the risk of data corruption or reduced network performance.

TIP: If you encounter the 'Open File Security Warning' when launching FleetVIP from your network, try this procedure in Internet Explorer:

Peer-to-Peer Installatons:

If you do not have a dedicated file server, another option is to implement peer-to-peer file sharing via the Windows file Explorer share tab.

More info from Microsoft on file sharing in Windows can be found at:

Installing Program Updates:  If the target installation folder is a shared folder or on a network drive, the userid should also have administrator access to the installation folder whenever installing updates.
